Individuals higher in psychological entitlement respond to bad luck with anger

The study investigates how psychological entitlement shapes emotional responses to bad luck. Across three studies, individuals with high entitlement levels perceived random misfortunes as injustices and responded with greater anger. This response was not observed when participants recalled unfair events with identifiable perpetrators or imagined someone else experiencing bad luck. The findings suggest that entitled individuals moralize negative personal outcomes and feel wronged even in the absence of intentional harm, highlighting how personality traits can influence emotional regulation and interpretations of everyday events.
